Students of DU & IP Colleges Set Stage on Fire

B Feb - Dance Competition
Dance Xplosion… BFAB!! Students of DU & IP Colleges Set Stage on Fire ... If You Believe You Can.. Dance is masti, Dance is life, Dance is career…

New Delhi : India is never been short of talent be it any field, the unmatched talent has proved themselves on both national & international scenario. All they need is a strong platform and opportunities to showcase their skills. In other countries, colleges are adopted by corporate houses and sports brands for promotion of talent, but in India that is not the case. To provide a strong platform & opportunities, Delhi based dancer Bhavini Mishra initiated a first of its kind performing arts competition in Delhi called DANCE XPLOSION… B FAB!!! three years ago, as an initiative to recognise and promote young talent that usually goes unrecognized. After two successful endeavours, Urshila Dance Company organized the 3rd edition of their annual Dance Saga at Shri Ram Centre of Arts & Culture, New Delhi, where over 400 students from 25 colleges of Delhi University & IP University performed in front of International celebrity dancers.

Our whole sole aim through this competition is to help youth feel a sense of direction and motivation towards the performing arts. Specially the NGO' dancers and the soloists out of whom some come from very poor backgrounds, says Bhavini Misra, Director of Urshilla Dance Company.

Most of these youth manage to save funds and participate in competitions on their own initiative. Even though the acumen for dancing is of international standards, the facilities and platforms available are not. Dance is still not treated as an industry in India and most importantly many youth who aspire to take dance up as a career have to battle parental pressure, financial struggle, lack of dance education due to lack of resources and above all lack of clarity so as to how to make it a fruitful career for themselves. BFAB is the platform that addresses all these issues for students, Bhavini added.

There were different categories for the competition with solo and duet categories; the category also had some underprivileged children coming together.  The whole focus was to wipe the status bar and develop mutual respect and appreciation for artists whether from affluent strata or humble backgrounds. This was followed by performance of NGO Salaam Baalak Trust.

After duets a professional category was there wherein choreography teams of Delhi University participated as also professional performances by leading dance companies including Shubhamani Shetty (Bharatnatyam Performance), Sadhya Unit of Performing Arts, Sanjay Khatri, BADA, Charlie Frost , Dance Fun, Ram Pradeep, Rahul Goswami Dance Company, Carolina Prada, Beeware, Subhashish, Dance Rulz, M PAC and Nanda Kumar; that enthralled the audience with an inflow of some amazing dance performances.

The performance were mentored and judged by Sahil Aneja a.k.a Sazzie, Fernando, Sanjay Khatri, Ritika Chandra, Mr. Santosh Nair, Padmashri Astaad Deboo Sir, Nathaniel Parchment from London, Yuko, Swag Gang Crew (international Hip Hop Championship Runners up), Nikolina Nikoleski, The Danceworx ( Ashley Lobo ) & Guru Rama Vaidyanathan.

“I congratulate the Urshilla Dance Company for creating a platform for young and budding dancers. It was really exciting and I can see a lot of young talent and unique concepts. It was a nice blend of dance techniques. I will not reveal who were my favorites but I will just wish everyone the best of luck and keep doing better” says Ritika Chandra.

“It is amazing to witness the kind of versatility we have in Delhi for now. I can see a bright future for dance through them. They are much ahead to what we were when we had just begun, said Sahil Aneja (Director and head Bass Crew [Dance plus fame])”
